The U700 combines sleek styling with the blisteringly fast speed of 3G UMTS 2100 networks.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). When paired with a compatible 3G network that uses UMTS 2100 MHz connectivity, you'll enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless services with speeds up to 384 Kbps--from data connectivity to your office to multimedia streaming. You can also take advantage of simultaneous voice and data services. In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive data service via EDGE network (depending on network compatibility).

Bedecked with exquisite jewel-toned colors that give the phone a look of distinction and sophistication, the U700's slim and sleek body has a cutting-edge look that is easy to grip. Soft curves, clean lines and bevel cuts offer a visual and tactile intrigue for subtle design refinement. The reflective mirror-like coating around the TFT display combined with the touch menu keys give the mobile a modern and polished finish.

This Samsung Ultra Edition II phone is slimmer and more powerful than the first edition with its advanced functions and improved design. Samsung's exclusive Optimized Power Usage Solution (OPUS) guarantees maximum performance with increased talk time by 10 percent, power saving by 30 percent and battery capacity by 10 percent. Samsung's Smart Surface Mounting Technology (SSMT), which was developed for the initial Ultra Edition range, is included and helps to reduce the number of required components, interference and noise. Samsung also includes its new and expanded interface system, which includes.

  • Jointly developed by Samsung and Adobe, uGo is an adaptive user interface that automatically responds to the user's environments. The main screen will display a landmark picture of the city you are located in, even adjusting the picture to the time of day or night, with added fun graphics and animation alerting you of missed phone calls and other information.
  • The uTrack function significantly increases your chances of recovering a lost or stolen phone by sending an SMS message to a pre-designated number to alert you of when your mobile's SIM card is changed as well as its location. This helpful feature enables you to keep track of your mobile, even when it is no longer in your possession.
  • You can create a personalized menu of shortcuts to frequently-used features using the uMenu function. Directly access your favorite functions without having to navigate through numerous menu screens. Time saving and convenient, My Menu puts you in control of your phone.

The Samsung U700 is a complete music player phone with superb sound quality. It plays a wide variety of music files including MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+, WMA file formats (as well as WM DRM), and background music plays as you use the mobile's other features. All music info (ID3 tag) is immediately transferred along with the songs so that your music library is automatically organized into the proper folders, and you can view album art for easy and colorful recognition. And offline mode allows you to keep listening without accessing a phone signal, making it safe for planes and great for conserving battery power.

The 3.2-megapixel camera features a 4x digital zoom, LED flash, enhanced auto focus, automatic switching between auto mode and macro mode by sensing the distance from the photo subject, and half shutter for more accurate focusing. An integrated image editor allows you to edit photos without compromising on the original quality and size of the picture. The camera also has video recording capabilities, shooting up to CIF resolution of 352 x 288 pixels. With TV output support, the E840 can display image and video files on a television or onto a screen via a beam projector.

The large 2.22-inch display features dazzling 262K color support and 240 x 320-pixel resolution, and its mirror-like reflective coating has a sleek finish for a sophisticated polished look. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls, and in addition to a vibrating alert, the U700 supports polyphonic and MP3 ringtones. You can expand it via MicroSD memory cards.

The U700 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. It also enables you to check your email on the go (supporting POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP protocols). T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile text messaging users.

This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. Customer Review: Beautiful, but a pain to figure out

This phone is a real head-turner. I never cease to get comments on it. It is probably one of the best values in a G3-capable phone, and with an added memory card (very cheap) is a great MP-3 player and high-capacity camera (both still and video).

But it really blows it when it comes to intuitive operation. It does a lot, but to figure out how to do it--UNBELIEVABLY COMPLICATED--and much more difficult than my previous Samsung phones. Simple things like changing the phone volume, setting the ring tone, or changing the wallpaper (screen background) become arduous tasks, and even with the manual take some digging around to do. You can't just pop that memory chip in either--then you have to go and activate it, and change a bunch of settings with regards to how photos and music are stored. Overall, a real pain in the backside, and Samsung should be ashamed for making it so complicated--particularly considering how intuitive some of their earlier phones are. Having all of the functionality in the world is no good if you can't figure out how to use it. And I say this as a fairly competent techno-nerd.

Customer Review: Stopped working.

I bought this phone in early Feb, stopped working after 4 months. I live in Houston and have TMobile. Phone shows full bars and connected to TMobile but will only allow me to make emergency calls (911). People tell me they have beeen trying to call me but my phone hasn't rang. If you google "sgh-u700 emergency calls only" you will see this is a common problem in the US. Since it is a UK phone Samsung does not offer support for it.
